Important Parent Information: Start of Term 2

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you are aware school will be commencing on Wednesday 29 April.  We will do so in a planned and controlled manner that will safeguard our staff and student’s well-being as our priority.

This letter hopefully comprehensively outlines the health and safety aspects that we have worked through as a Senior Team. The Health and Safety of our school community is always at the forefront of our minds and we have worked hard to also align with the requirements set by the Government and the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia.

Please take the time to read this document thoroughly as there are many important changes that you and your child will need to be familiar with.

It is important to note that these measures will be put into place for the first three weeks of Term 2 and reviewed in preparation for Week 4.

WHOLE SCHOOL

Numbers Returning

Unlike the vast majority of schools who have no idea how many students are returning we know to the child who is returning and who is not. Our parents have reacted positively with 76% of Secondary returning and 60% of primary returning to school for face to face education. These numbers enable us to pre-plan and arrange appropriate measures for social distancing in classes.

Parents on Campus

The State Government has advised that Parents are not allowed on School Grounds. If there is a reason that you need to come on school grounds you will be required to call Reception on 93765850 and liaise with the Administration staff.  If your child becomes unwell during the school day you will be contacted and will be able to collect your child from Reception.

Cleaning

Additional cleaning will be undertaken during the school day.  This will include but is not limited to;

  • ELC playground equipment;
  • Sporting equipment;
  • Often touched surfaces;
  • Class teachers provided with spray bottles to sanitise door handles, light fittings, tables and desks;
  • Toilets.

All classrooms will be provided with hand sanitisers (or soap) which students will be required to use multiple times throughout the day. Students will also be reminded of the importance of washing their hands and avoiding person to person contact.

Uniforms

As an exception and during this trying time, on days where PE and Sport are timetabled students will be allowed to wear their sports uniform. This is to avoid students having to change and congregate in the changing rooms and as a safeguard. This will be reviewed for Week 4 along with all other safeguarding measures.

We are aware that many students may not yet have had the opportunity to purchase a winter uniform. There will be a three-week transition period allowing students to wear either their full summer or winter uniform, not a ‘blend’ of both.  A tie is required if the winter uniform is being worn. At the commencement of Week 4 all students will be expected to be in their full winter uniform.

Until further notice Perm-a-Pleat will be operating as an online service.  Orders placed prior to midnight on a Tuesday night will be sent to your child’s classroom the following day. If you are unsure of your child’s sizing, appointments can be booked, however appointment times are limited.

Canteen

The canteen will be closed. Students must bring all food to be consumed throughout the day. The drink fountains remain turned off or roped off. Therefore, students will need to bring a drink bottle and re-fill it during the day.

CCAs

Co-curricular activities will be suspended until further notice except for the Secondary Homework Club in the Library on Mondays – Thursdays. To assist students, we will offer additional homework assistance groups across the week, students will need to check their notices in SEQTA for further details.

Homework and Activities Club

This service will operate if there is a need from the parents. Any parent requiring this service is requested to contact Reception by no later than midday Tuesday 28 April. If we do not have any response the service will remain closed and will be reviewed weekly.

PRIMARY FOCUSSED

Students Remaining at Home – Work Packs

Once again, those children whose parents opt to have their children stay at home will have work packs set for them with one weekly group catch up with their classroom teacher only. These work packs will be clearly labelled and placed on the bench seats outside your child’s classroom and available for collection on Tuesday 28 April between 2.00 – 3.00pm. If you are unable to collect during this time please contact Reception on 9303 3840.

We request that you minimise your time on campus when collecting your child/drens items. Unfortunately, as much as it would be nice to engage in conversation with other parents this is not the time to be doing so. We will be enforcing this strongly.

Students Returning to School

Classrooms will be configured allowing for the 1.5 metre social distancing rule.

Recess

To remain unchanged.

Lunch

To avoid large group gatherings there will be three designated areas for the students to eat their lunch. These areas will be determined by your child’s year group. The children will be advised by their class teacher of this location and supervised by a teacher on duty. All areas will be undercover.

During the lunch break, students will have access to play equipment, oval and basketball court for the Year 5 and 6 students. The equipment will be sanitised prior to and after each recess, as prescribed by the Education Department.

Drop off and Pick up – See Map Below

Parents will need to remain in their car while dropping off and picking up their children.

Please clearly follow the map outlined below:

Kindergarten to Year 2

Drop off between 8.35 – 8.50am and Pick up between 2.50pm – 3.15pm

  • Enter via Gate 1;
  • Drive down left-hand side of Lane 1 and wait in one of the marked waiting bays (as shown above in yellow);
  • Child to independently get out/into car and will be assisted by staff from the carpark to the classroom teacher;
  • Exit using Lane 2 and via Gate 2.

 Years 3 – 6

Drop off between 8.20 – 8.35am and Pick up between 3.15pm – 3.30pm

  • Enter via Gate 3;
  • Keep vehicle within the roped off Lane 3 at all times.  (as shown above in green);
  • Wait in one of the marked waiting bays (as shown above in yellow);
  • Child to independently get out/into car and will be directed by staff from the carpark to the classroom teacher;
  • Exit via gate at the end of primary oval and onto the Aged Care driveway.

If you have multiple children in your family, please use the above instruction for the youngest child in your family.   For example, if you have children in Kindergarten, Year 3 and Year 5 you will be using Lane 1.

It is paramount that parents and guardians adhere to the staggered time slots as this will go a long way to helping alleviate congestion. We understand that there will be delays and appreciate your patience during this time. This process will be reviewed at the end of week one and modified if required.

SECONDARY FOCUSSED

Class Sizes

To allow for maximum space for students, our largest classes, Year 9 and Year 10, will have their lessons taught in ‘homeroom’, this will allow students to remain in the same room for the majority of the day.  Teachers will move to these rooms to teach their lessons.

Lockers

Due to social distancing, lockers will not be used. Students will be required to take their bags with them from class to class.

Feedback from the students after the installation of the lockers was that they wanted a shelf installed. This work will be undertaken over the next week, students who are continuing to work from home will need to come to school on Tuesday to remove their lock from the locker to allow for this work. Failure to do so will require us to force the lock. Students returning to school will be allocated time to do this during the first day back on campus.

Sport Uniform

On the days that your child has timetabled sport, they will be required to wear their sports uniform to school and remain in that uniform for the entire day. No changing of uniforms will take place throughout the day. Please note this is only on the days that they have timetabled sport.

Students Returning to School

Parents will need to remain in their car while dropping off and picking up their children.

Please clearly follow the map outlined below:

Years 7 – 12

Drop off between 8.20 – 8.30am and Pick up between 3.20pm – 3.30pm

  • Enter via Gate 1 on Boddington Court;
  • Follow arrows and wait in one of the 8 marked waiting bays. (As shown in yellow)
  • Child to independently get out/into car and move on via the pathways when clear;
  • Exit via Gate 2 on Boddington Court.

Students are encouraged to use public transport where possible to reduce the number of cars entering the school grounds. Year 12 students who usually drive to school will need to park their cars away from the campus while these arrangements are in place.

We would, once again, like to thank you for your understanding and co-operation in these somewhat trying times. We look forward to what we hope will be a smooth and exciting return to school and Term 2.

Kind regards

Craig Monaghan
