Year 6 & 7 Transition Programme

Students who attend St. Andrew’s Grammar School have a seamless transition between Year 6 and Year 7- Primary and Secondary sub-schools.

Orientation day takes place at the commencement of Term 1 where new students are affiliated with the school and meet their teachers. They are allocated their timetable and learn how to navigate around the school before the other students commence.

Our buddy system across the whole school assists with the transition from Primary to Secondary. Year 5’s are allocated buddies from Year 8, Year 6’s are allocated buddies from Year 9 and Year 7’s are allocated buddies in Year 10.  The Senior Students transition with their Primary buddies for three years.

We link students from the same House wherever possible and then ensure that they are in in the same Form in Secondary.

Our Secondary staff teach lessons to the Year 5 and 6 students to give them a ‘taste’ of the Secondary School so they know what to expect upon their arrival in later years.

On Transition Day, which takes place in Term 4, all Year 6 students new and old are invited to attended an action-packed day where they tour the school and spend a day meeting their teachers and participating in classes which expose them to a-day-in-the-life of a 7 student.

Transition programs and opportunities are managed by Sam Hunt, Pastoral Coordinator of Year 7 and 8, the teachers of Years 5 and 6, in coordination with the Heads of Primary and Secondary.
